【童話】傑克和豌豆從前，有一個叫做傑克的男孩，他和母親生活在一起；傑克的家裡十分貧窮，只有一頭母牛。

但是，有一天母牛終於再也擠不出奶來了；於是，母親就說：「傑克！你把母牛牽到鎮上賣了吧！」「是的，媽媽！」

於是，傑克便出發了。

在通往鎮上的途中，傑克被一位奇怪的老人叫住了：「年輕人！我用這些豆子來換你那頭牛，好嗎？這是一些神奇的豆子，可以一晚上，長到天空那般的高哪！」

於是傑克便將母牛換了豆子。

傑克一躍就跳到了豆子樹上去了，他順著樹干往上爬。

終於，傑克爬到了雲的上面；在那裡，有一條道路綿延而下，傑克順著道路一直走了一會兒，他發現了一座巨大的城堡。

城堡的門口，站著一位胖胖的巨大婦人。

「老婆婆，我肚子好餓，你可以給我一點東西吃嗎？」傑克問。

「啊！真可憐呀！這些食物給你，你趕快吃吧！如果吃的太慢，我先生回來了，他會吃掉你的！」

婦人一面告訴傑克，一面拿了麵包、起酥、和牛奶來。

但是，就在這時候，傳來咚、咚的巨大腳步聲。

「是我先生回來了！我先生是個壞蛋，最喜歡吃像你這樣的小孩！你趕快躲起來吧。」

婦人很快將傑克藏入鍋里，壞蛋巨人一進入屋裡便說：「好香呀！好像有很好吃的小孩味呢！」巨人還到處嗅著，希望能找到小孩哪！

但是，巨人沒發現傑克。

巨人吃完了兩頭小牛以後，就從袋子里拿出許多金幣來，放在桌子上數啊數的，就睡著了…………．。

這個時候，傑克才趕緊的從鍋中爬了出來，抱了一個巨人的金幣袋，順著豆子的樹干滑下去了。

傑克與母親二人，有了金幣以後日子好過了不少。

但是，金幣終於用完了。

於是，傑克再次的順著豆子樹往上爬，來到了城堡，躲了起來，過了不久，巨人回來了。

巨人將一隻母雞放在桌上，然後對著母雞說：

「母雞、母雞趕快生蛋吧！」

話才說完，母雞就噗通地生下了一個金雞蛋。

傑克像上次一樣，等到巨人睡著了，才抱著母雞逃回家。

第三次，傑克又來到巨人的城堡里；不久，巨人就帶著一個漂亮的豎琴回來。

壞蛋將豎琴一放在桌上，豎琴就開始自動地發出美妙的音樂聲來，傑克看了實在太喜歡了。

傑克一等到巨人睡著，便抓起豎琴想跑。但是，豎琴卻「糟了！糟了！」叫了起來。

巨人一醒過來，就起身要追傑克。

傑克很快地從豆子樹滑下來。

「別逃！你這小混球！」

巨人跟著傑克由豆子樹滑下來，傑克著急的愈滑愈快，總算來到了地面。

「媽！快給我斧頭！」

傑克從母親手中接過斧頭，就趕緊使勁地砍著豆子樹干，「卡喳、卡喳…．．」「嘩！」

嘩啦、嘩啦，樹終於倒了下來，巨人也從半空中摔到地面，當場就死了。

巨人回家後，他發現了家裡有「人味」，不過並沒有發現傑克。直到巨人沉沉睡去之後，傑克偷了一袋金幣，並原路逃離這個地方。

之後，傑克曾經回到巨人的住所兩次，並如法炮製在巨人睡著時偷了其他的財寶：一個會下金蛋的鵝（或雞）、以及一個會自動彈奏的豎琴。

但是，在傑克想要帶著豎琴離開時，把巨人吵醒了，於是，巨人緊緊追趕傑克，傑克便叫母親拿斧頭把豆莖砍斷，讓巨人跌落至死。而傑克和母親便靠著從巨人那裡得到的財寶，過著幸福的日子。

1734年首次出現於《傑克‧史普林金與魔豆的故事》，1807年時出現在本傑明·塔巴特（Benjamin Tabart）的版本《傑克與魔豆史話》，但最普及的是約瑟夫·雅各布（Joseph Jacobs）的版本（1890年）。

有看法認為，約瑟夫的版本可能比較接近口語流傳時的版本，因為本傑明的版本中含有說教勸世的內容，而口語流傳時的版本通常比較沒有這類成分。
